Public Newsroom #25: Your Taxes, Your TIFs
@ Build Coffee
6100 S Blackstone Ave, Chicago, IL 60637
Opening Thursday, July 6th, from 6PM - 8PM
Chicago’s annual Tax Increment Financing (TIF) report is expected to be released this week, so we’ll have TIF expert Tom Tresser in the Public Newsroom to discuss how TIFs work and who wins and loses from their use in the city.
This workshop will be a collaborative, crowd-sourced process where City Bureau and the Civic Lab will show how the public can dissect and analyze TIF data. If the 2016 TIF report is not online by Thursday night, we’ll examine the TIFs of the 20th Ward, especially the Woodlawn TIF, which includes the location of our newsroom.
Either way, Public Newsroom #25 is sure to be an informative evening with plenty of time for questions, hands-on workshopping and, potentially, the creation of a community-guided reporting project on TIFs using the most recent TIF data available.
Our weekly #PublicNewsroom workshop series is always free and always open to the public thanks to your support. Youth and communities interested in storytelling, media, art and civic engagement are encouraged to attend.
