Hyde Park Art Center is pleased to present “Where Future Unfolds,” a public program organized and produced by Flex Space Artist in Resident Damon Locks.

Locks will present visual works in progress alongside a small vocal group and choir, manifesting his intersectional practice that combines visual art and music intertwined. The singers for this performance will be: Lauren Robinson, Allie Bradford, Tramaine Parker, Phillip Armstrong and Josephine Kern.

In the words of Locks:
“The lyrics and music created for the group are inspired by the 60s/70s use of gospel in the Civil Rights Struggle/Black Consciousness Movement. Though this sonic filter, the music will look at the contemporary moment as we continue to contend with a whole host of hatreds that remind us how little has changed in the years since this this was a primary musical voice for Black struggle. In similar ways the visual work will call upon artists best known by their work of that era like Emory Douglas or Barbara Jones-Hugu to inspire drawings and prints.”
