On select Saturdays during Merce Cunningham: Common Time, local dance companies engage with Merce’s conviction of “common time” to activate the driving themes and concepts behind the exhibition. These collaborative and cross-disciplinary performances demonstrate overlapping relationships between movement, music, fashion, architecture, social media, set, and lighting design.

Research-based and architecture-engaged company CabinFever is comprised of half musicians, half dancers. Their process involves extended inquiry into the history of a building and its inhabitants to craft a work performed in that building. Respire is a site-specific collaboration between CabinFever and electronic music improviser Stephan Moore, with inspiration taken from the MCA’s architecture—designed by Josef Paul Kleihues. Each cycle of the performance consists of hourlong installations beginning at noon, 1, 2, and 3 pm. A 20-minute Q&A follows the final cycle (4-4:20 pm).
