Art Spaces and Placekeeping as Resistance
@ Rootwork Gallery
645 W 18th Street, Chicago, IL 60616
Opening Friday, April 21st, from 10AM - 12PM
Much has been made of placemaking as a form of arts agency. However, many such efforts have stirred attending narratives around gentrification and cultural erasure.
Start your morning with this “walking tour conversation” with artists and curators (including program convener and host, Tracie D. Hall of Joyce Foundation and Rootwork Gallery, muralist Sam Kirk, and curators from Cultura en Pilsen, AM/FM, and Pilsen Outpost) begins at Rootwork Gallery in Pilsen with panelists and attendees engaging in an open conversation about placekeeping vs. placemaking strategies before heading out to explore Pilsen’s most dynamic street art and art spaces. Everyone is welcome to join us for this travelling Open House.
