About the Panelists

Faheem Majeed (b. 1976) is an artist, educator, curator and community facilitator. He blends his unique experience as an artist, non-profit administrator and curator to create works that focus on institutional critique and exhibitions that leverage collaboration to engage his immediate, and the broader community, in meaningful dialogue. Majeed previously served as Executive Director and Curator for the South Side Community Art Center and has completed artist residencies for University of Chicago’s Arts in Public Life Initiative, MANA Contemporary Chicago, Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events and Three Walls’ Propeller Fund Residency. Majeed recently completed his first solo museum exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and in 2016 was listed in Newcity’s Art 50. Majeed lives and works in Chicago, IL.

Sabina Ott (b. 1955) is a visual artist known for her broad range of work– from painting to installation to sculpture– and her central role in the art world as teacher, administrator and as the founder of the exhibition space Terrain, which invites artists to create installations and performances using the exterior of her Oak Park home. Ott has participated in over 100 solo and group exhibitions at institutions in Sao Paulo, Brazil; Auckland, New Zealand; Melbourne, Australia; and many cities across the US. Her work is in numerous museum collections including The Whitney Museum of American Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Oakland Museum of Art, and has been reviewed in Art in America, Art Forum, New Art Examiner, The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times, among other publications. She has received a Guggenheim fellowship for 2015-2016 and recently held solo exhibitions at the Chicago Cultural Center and the Hyde Park Art Center. She is Professor of Art at Columbia College Chicago.

Lan Tuazon (b. 1976) is a visual artist whose practice addresses the order of things as it relates to built and imaginary environments. Recent exhibitions include Neue Galerie in the Imperial Palace of Austria; Bucharest Biennale 4; the WKV Kunstverein, Germany; The Lowry Museum, London; the Brooklyn Museum, New York; Artist Space, New York; ISE Cultural Foundation, New York; Canada Gallery, New York; Sculpture Center, Queens; Apex Art, New York; and the Storefront for Art & Architecture, New York. Lan Tuazon is an Assistant Professor of Sculpture at the School of Art Institute in Chicago.
