Danielle Rosen: HYDRA
@ 65GRAND
3252 W North Ave, Chicago, IL 60647
Opening Friday, January 27th, from 6PM - 9PM
On view through Saturday, March 4th
65GRAND is pleased to present Danielle Rosen in her first exhibition with the gallery: HYDRA. The works on view in HYDRA range from cast aluminum sculptures to assemblages of diverse materials and digital photographs created on a scanner bed. Rosen is interested in, “How femininity and animality are performed and how they meet in a domestic context.” People perform their animality by having pets or wearing fur. Fashion is a way of performing animality. It’s part of the mating ritual or a warning sign. When we bring pets into our homes are we performing animality? The artist suggests that, “Maybe we’re all—both humans and non-human animals—performing our mutual domestication.”
Danielle Rosen lives and works in Chicago. Recent solo exhibitions include TOTEMS at The Ski Club, Milwaukee, WI in 2015 and An Encyclopedia at Counterpath, Denver, CO in 2014.
