Red Line Service: House
@ Weinberg/Newton Gallery
300 W Superior St, Suite 203, Chicago, IL 60654
Opening Friday, January 27th, from 5PM - 8PM
On view through Saturday, March 25th
Weinberg/Newton Gallery is proud to partner with art collaborative Red Line Service for House. Red Line Service works with Chicagoans experiencing homelessness to create cultural and intellectual programming.
Red Line Service’s co-founders, Billy McGuinness and Rhoda Rosen, invite you to a potluck-style opening event to celebrate the occasion of House! Bring libations and a dish to share. Spend time connecting with a wider community, including Chicagoans experiencing homelessness and those who are housed.
Red Line Service will use the bulk of the exhibition budget to house two Chicagoans currently experiencing homelessness for a full year. The crux of the exhibition therefore remains hidden, private, and off-site – and extends past the show’s designated duration. In this spirit, the title of the exhibition is the verb, not the noun, form of the word “house.”
The gallery space will serve as a platform for a series of events throughout the course of the exhibition. An audio piece, a video piece, and a handful of objects and images related to solving Chicago’s housing crisis will be on display.
