4:30p-5:30p | Eva Lewis (on behalf of The I Project) – Surviving Socially Conscious
In this workshop, we will explore ways to practice self-care in the midst of being socially conscious. Being socially conscious can be a taxing thing. We see problems and everything, and may sometimes feel helpless and unable to solve these problems, especially when they systematically affect us. It is important when in the line of sociological work, we prioritize our health on top of helping others. Together, we will discuss what it means to be socially conscious, and how it affects our everyday lives. Then, we will work on finding joy in things of all sizes. The I Project is an initiative to humanize intersections through an activism through art approach. Using art as a primary medium, we will express our frustrations, joys, and begin individual roads to healing and self care despite enduring oppression. Participants will write and share poetry, join in song, dance, and meditate. The goal is for each person to find an outlet that bests works for them to cope with an analytical mindset. We will cultivate an energy focused in joy, community, and creativity.
