Wheat Paste Viaducts Performance
& 2016 Artist-In-Residence Exhibition, ‘Resonant Objects’
Head Cleaner is the final event produced by 2016 Artist-In-Residence, Aquil ‘AQ’ Charlton, for the Resonant Objects exhibition currently on display at the Logan Center and Arts Incubator. This is also the first of several performances and recordings planned by Wheat Paste to publicly display and develop material for their debut release. This beat driven, mixed-media performance features the trio as they combine hand-spliced 16mm film with hardware-based electronic music using improvisation and structured composition to create a distinct audio-visual event.
Wheat Paste Viaducts artfully depicts urban decay transformed by radical acts of creativity. This electronic music and media arts ensemble was formed in early 2015 by musicians, Aquil Charlton and Nick Wilson, and joined by filmmaker, George Schaefer later that year. Appearing at eclectic venues including IIT Radio, Elastic Arts, and “16mm Film Night” in East Garfield Park, the group combines their sound and visual practices in a collaborative process to create new forms, experienced in the real-time of performance.
Presented by the University of Chicago’s Arts + Public Life and the Center for the Study of Race, Politics; Logan Center Exhibitions; and Black Artists Retreat 2016.
