Amina Ross: The Beautiful Ones series: “I would like to cry for everyone”

The Chicago Artists Coalition is honored to open its space to present “The Beautiful Ones,” a series of performances and a poetry reading in response to the violence against the LGBTQIA community and persons of color at Pulse Orlando nightclub on Sunday, June 12, 2016. Responses by CAC artists and community will occur in the BOLT space on various nights between June 24 and July 13. All are welcome to attend, commemorate, listen, and engage.

ARTIST BIO
Amina Ross is engaged in the abstraction and manipulation of visual and written language. As of late these interests have led to an exploration of PLAY as both a site of inquiry and a critical mode of making. Amina’s practice consists of image-making, writing, performance, and installation strategies. Amina’s process is consciously constructed and highly collaborative. Amina has shown work at the Black Cinema House, Vox Populi, Links Hall and Defibrillator Performance Art Gallery, among other venues. Amina has spoken on panels and taught workshops at College Arts Association Conference, Allied Media Conference, Black Artist Retreat, Threewalls and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Amina is currently a teaching artist at Hyde Park Art Center and was a part of Chicago Artist Coalition’s BOLT Residency 2015-2016 cohort. Amina is currently a fellow at Stony Island Arts Bank.
