Please join us for an evening book launch from LATITUDE’s former Lab Coordinator Thomson Dryjanski! Tom will be joined by Chelsea Ross to discuss his first published book, Monument’s Travels.

Books will be available for purchase at the event. They can also be purchased online at http://monumentstravels.bigcartel.com/

ABOUT THE BOOK
Monument’s Travels is an artist book questioning with the potency of photographs and the process therein. The viewer experiences a mimicry of the artist’s physchogeographic quest to image the forces of urban planning, the bodies they move and populist methods opposing the grand design. In a fluid hierarchy of images, banality and routine is treated with the same regard as monuments and spectacle. A blank window shares the sharp focus of a statue long overlooked. Dry and quiet at first glance, this book is a Cheshire Cat’s appreciation of the city.

BIOS
Tom Dryjanski (b. 1987) is an artist, teacher and arts facilitator living and working in Chicago.

Chelsea Ross is a multi-disciplinary artist, writer, editor and curator, born and bred in Chicago. With a focus on fine art portraiture and editorial work, her photography has been exhibited in Chicago and published in the Chicago Reader, the Washington Post, New York Times, In These Times and Fresh Meat Journal. She printed her first solo exhibition, In Situ, at Latitude in the spring of last year. The exhibition presented series of styled portraits of individual women in relation to place as a means of both interrogating and inserting agency into the worlds in which we inhabit. She is currently working on an ongoing portrait campaign in collaboration with artist Leah Ball, called Feminist as Fuck, which documents the many faces of feminism while creating a platform for intersectional feminist dialogue. Chelsea holds an MA in Design Criticism from the School of Architecture at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she studied architecture and design as a mode of cultural production. She writes regularly several publications including Architect’s Newspaper.
