What does detention look like from the outside – on neighborhood streets, in friends’ homes, across a mother’s face? The exhibition presents a selection of work by artists addressing the effects of incarceration in our daily lives. Photographs, collages, sculptures and video installations on view present the loss, protest, and perseverance of those connected to detention facilities across the Midwest. The thought- provoking and personal work by these contemporary artists explore issues of violence, immigration, human rights and community responsibility that complement the prints and paintings by incarcerated artists on view in Weight of Rage . Residual Lives is curated by Allison Peters Quinn, Director of Exhibitions & Residency Programs.
