Andrew Bruah’s exhibition, Some of these days / You’ll miss me, honey, presents a collection of images that sever context from subject matter, quietly evading indications of specific place and time. In avoiding the traditional photographic role of documentation, these images stretch benign rural and urban scenes to encompass the strange, the other.

Whether a deeply elegant still life of apples in the morning sun, or a pigeon doused by the manufactured waterfall of a city fountain, the name of the thing is not the thing, and the things in Bruah’s photos seem to dance around their names.

Bruah’s compositions are exacting, but their aesthetic elegance belies the content of this work. There is an air of memory and loss; the impenetrable mystery of the natural landscape, and man as nature.

Some of these days / You’ll miss me, honey is curated by Jessie Devereaux for Comfort Station Logan Square.
