Four Corners is not a re-invention, but an investigation of creative space by finding outer limits–feeling out parameters. What is it to meld, combine, synthesize and understand the synergy produced by collaboration? The ability to extend your personal practice beyond what can be rationalized, planned or constructed internally. Exploring social relationships and fostering a practice not bound by any corners, whatsoever.

Organized by Vincent Uribe, Four Corners celebrates The Arts of Life new Collaboration Program in which select Chicago based artists have paired up to mentor and collaborate with an artist from The Arts of Life studio program. The Arts of Life is a not-for-profit alternative day program for people with and without disabilities creating an artistic culture to realize their full potential.

Artists Noël Morical and Mike Paro spent six months with Art’s of Life members Jean Wilson and Tim Stone learning how to work together, as four artists–two pairs–one whole. Defined not by the consistencies or patterns that emerge, but by the changes and intersections–Four Corners is a name chosen to represent a form defined by variation as opposed to linear confines. Each pair will produce a site – specific work that intersects with the architecture, landscape and context of Terrain and Terrain South.

Vincent Uribe is an artist and creative entrepreneur who joined The Arts of Life staff in November of 2013 as the Arts Coordinator for their Chicago Studio. Vincent is also the Founding Director of LVL3 gallery in Wicker Park, an artist run space dedicated to supporting collaborative work and group shows of all mediums.

The Arts of Life Collaboration Program brings together a number of professional Chicago based artists and The Arts of Life studio artist for a unique collaborative experience. Committing to a minimum of 6 months of working together The Art of Life artist and Chicago based artist work together at least twice a month creating work and building a relationship for further exhibition opportunities.

Noël Morical is a process-based artist and educator living in Chicago,IL. Noël originally hails from Indianapolis IN. She graduated from the School of the Art Institute in 2011 with a BFA, and has been in Chicago since. Noël is interested in decoding experience and the functionality of color. In addition to her studio practice, she teaches in after-school enrichment programs and museums. Mike Paro also received his BFA from the School of the Art Institute and has exhibited at such venues as Union League, Tom Robinson Gallery, and Johalla Project in Chicago, IL. He is a painter that has a real problem with canvas. His mother owned a shop that sold plaster sundries, and he really likes northern latitudes. He deals with issues of hierarchy and subversion in his work. As much as possible, Mike has begun to incorporate collaboration as a form for his work, moving from a sedentary practice into a tangle that explores relationships and connectivity.
