Jennifer Norback Fine Art is honored to announce two firsts coming to the gallery in April, as we introduce fine artist Victoria Loeb in her debut exhibition and premiere the first works in oils from visual artist Michael Goro in the exhibition “In Tension.”
Exploring the tensions between the male and female forms, Loeb’s series of nude figures are painted on canvas in a mixed media of charcoal, oil, and pastels. The Argentinian born artist uses bold colors (both warm and cool) to contrast the bodies, while simultaneously expressing raw human sensuality in a loose and fluid manner akin to the style of early 20th century Austrian expressionist Egon Schiele. “In my paintings I want to remark on what cannot be seen and what is not said; to focus on the suggested rather than interpret what is shown, the most evident,” says Loeb. “Mystery intrigues me and is always present in my work, by leaving an open space for the onlooker, between what is shown and what is not. A space in which they are the ones who conclude the work, rather the ones who open it. I try to emphasize the experience between the work and the viewer. As in a novel, one should give in to the game that the work proposes; look at the painting not intellectually but with innocence, since it is not a rational experience, but a sensitive and emotional one.”
Loeb’s paintings will be complimented with portraits by Goro, whose most recent exhibit, “The City in Color,” saw the celebrated artist (known primarily for his etchings and engravings) make his first foray into working with color. Goro is continuing the transition started with “Color,” which was a critically and commercially lauded exhibition, by furthering his explorations with this series of oil paintings. “After working for over 20 years in black and white I’ve discovered that I am not color blind,” he states. “Transitioning from print to painting is liberating. Working in this medium adds another dimension and really brings these portraits to life.”
