Sunday Painters: I Know What You Did Last Sunday, Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Block, Portraits of Hope
@ The Hills Esthetic Center
128 N. Campbell Ave., Chicago IL
Opening Sunday, November 10th, from 4PM - 7PM
The Hills Esthetic Center invites you to Sunday Painters: I Know What You Did Last Sunday, Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Block, Portraits of Hope. The exhibition shares the namesake of its single art work; a wall of multiple paintings each made collaboratively, in three Sunday afternoon sessions (still-life, plein air, and portraiture) during the run of (and as part of) the exhibition, Madam, Thou Art Bonkers.
Rules of the gathering were that each painting may have as many contributions as it needs, it is complete when all participants in the group are satisfied with the work, then its titled by consensus, signed by anyone who contributed, and added to the wall.
Sunday Painters is an irregularly ongoing series by Chelsea Culp and Ben Foch that pivots from intersections of conceptual painting, performance, social-practice, and consensus based organizing.
Artists in the work and exhibition include:
Ben Foch, Chelsea Culp, Sarah Mendelsohn, Sofia Leiby, Leo Kaplan, Cara Megan Lewis, Alejandro Figueredo Diaz-Perera, Sam Lipp, Luis Miguel Bendaña, Meredith Zanotta, Chloe Seibert, Nick Guenther, Alexine Haynes, Lynn Basa, Mike Kloss, Hope Esser, Andrew Pace, The Space/ Movement Project, Thorne Brandt
The opening reception and potluck is this Sunday November 10th, 2013 from 4 – 7pm. Bring something edible/ drinkable to share!
