The 2013 spring Alumni on 5 Exhibition looks at Columbia alumni teaching artists and the connection between the artists’ studio practice and their teaching practice. This year’s exhibition focuses on the correlation between the artwork our alumni create, their teaching practice and the work their students create. With the release of the Chicago Cultural Plan 2012 and its emphasis on the arts in Chicago Public Schools, we hope to develop sustainable relationships between educators and generate dialog around the meaning of ‘teaching artist’. Calling attention to the crucial role the arts and the artist plays in the future of education.
