Pleiades Series: Hali Palombo, Bankatez
@ Elastic Arts
3429 W Diversey Ave, #208, Chicago IL, 60647
Opening Saturday, October 26th, at 8PM
We’ve got a special Pleiades Series for October featuring some spooky and abstract sound + film! One of Chicago’s most multifaceted and prolific Hali Palombo will join us for a new set of audio explorations. Their work often explores a brand new approach to sound and video. Tonight she will be playing a live score to the 1922 silent film Häxan composed from audio recordings of wax cylinders. Preceding Hali’s performance we’ll hear a solo electronics set from Hanna Elliott aka Bankatez. This project scrapes the depths of dark textures, grooves, and timbres using samplers and modular synth. There are echoes of Hanna’s previous project HOGG, but it clearly goes to new distances.
Following the live sets we’ll have the classic Pleiades Jam for all femme/nonbinary/trans artists, but this time is special! Hali Palombo has provided a selection of silent films they’ve created for the jammers to improvise alongside. This is going to be an awesome night of sound and video, so bring your instrument! Hit up pleiades@elasticarts.org to reserve your spot in the jam. Admission is FREE for all jammers.
$15 / $10 w/ Student ID – Tickets Available at the Door

Bakantez formed in 2022 as the solo electronic project of Chicago based experimental composer Hanna Elliott, former member of the industrial duo HOGG. Over the years of creative development, Hanna has retained consistent themes of libidinal physicality, tactility, and tumultuous introspection. Her project Bakantez sonically consists of electro-acoustic sampling, sequencing, synthesis, and processed vocals reminiscent of sound collage, minimal wave, and noise. Her new work uses home-made objects that translate movement into tools for sonic manipulation. As Bakantez, Hanna released her first full-length album ‘Rubedo’ in 2021 on CD and Cassette and was featured on the compilation ‘Larval Worlds’ curated by the Montreal based art-collective, Interzone. She currently works with Brooklyn based artist Roxy Farman (Manat, Wetware) on the multi-media project, Tvål. Tvål debuted their first piece at Pioneer Works in Brooklyn, 2022. Through various music projects, Hanna has released four full length albums and two EPs with Labels SCRAPES, Nihilist, and Rotted Tooth Recordings. She has gone on five American tours, has performed in France, Montreal, and at Mana in Miami.
Hali Palombo is a radio host, composer, visual artist and filmmaker from Chicago, Illinois. Born in Northfield, Minnesota, she has had a natural curiosity about the Midwestern United States since a young age. Her work often weaves the absurdity and mundane beauty of Illinois into her records, short films, drawings and paintings.
