Jeanne Gang: The Art of Architectural Grafting
@ First United Methodist Church at the Chicago Temple
77 W Washington St, Chicago, IL 60602
Opening Saturday, April 13th, from 6:30PM - 7:30PM
One of the leading voices in architecture, Jeanne Gang is renowned for projects that connect people, their communities, and the natural world. The founding partner of Studio Gang and a Professor in Practice at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, her major civic and cultural projects include Chicagoland’s Writers Theatre, Chicago River Boathouses, Aqua Tower, The St. Regis Chicago, and Nature Boardwalk at Lincoln Park Zoo.
For Chicago Humanities, Gang digs into how the horticultural technique of grafting—joining a new plant to an older one so they can grow and thrive as one—inspires a fresh paradigm for sustainable design. Drawing on her latest book, The Art of Architectural Grafting, Gang will discuss how we can better recognize the cultural and environmental value in our existing building stock and expand on it in ways that bring new beauty and opportunity to our communities.
A book signing will follow this program.
