Terrain Biennial 2023 Block Party
@ James Stone Freedom Square
3615 W Douglas Blvd, Chicago, IL 60623
Opening Sunday, October 1st, from 3PM - 6PM
To kick off the biennial, we’re joining forces with the Chicago Sukkah Design Festival to bring the Terrain Biennial 2023 Block Party to the North Lawndale neighborhood. Join us for a day of community building in celebration of public art and architecture.
So, what’s happening? And when?
3pm – Afrofuturist dance experience led by Ytasha Womack
4pm – Poetry from Yvon Gonzalez (Yucatec Maya and Yaqui)
4:30pm – Sonic improvisation with Melon Sprout
5pm – Cake Walk ‘n’ Roll led by the Terrain team with a chance to win goodies from Bitesize Baked Goods and many more!
Throughout the day, fun for kiddos and grownups alike will include canvas-painting with Courtney Gipson of Antidote, Inc, screen-printing with Cody Norman, and button-making with Charlie Roderick. Plus activations from Redemptive Plastics and Bad at Sports, jams from DJ Shannon Harris, on-theme bites from Windy City Mushroom, and tasty tacos from Aztec Dave’s.
Plus plenty of Terrain projects to check out in the area from Red Line Service Institute, Daya Tiye, Eva Neuharth, Serena JV Elston, and more!
Admission is free and all are welcome!
Bring your friends! Bring your neighbors!
P.S. Swing by early at 1pm to join Red Line Service Institute in creating a mural at 1330 S. Millard (just across the boulevard) and learn about their vision for transforming an empty lot into a community garden!
