Keeping Time

@ TUSK

3205 W Armitage Ave, Chicago, IL 60647

Opening Sunday, October 1st, from 12PM - 5PM

On view through Sunday, October 22nd

062 in collaboration with TUSK, is happy to present Keeping Time, a solo presentation of the works of Thomas Kong, who recently passed away.

Please join us on October 1st, from 12-5 PM, to celebrate Kong’s legacy. This exhibition runs until October 22, 2023.

The exhibition will present 28 collages created by Kong, the proprietor and the artist of Kim’s Corner Food, who, for more than ten years, has quietly served as a profound source of inspiration for artists in the Chicago community. Operating out of Kim’s Corner Food, a quaint bodega in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago, Kong created hundreds and thousands of pieces since 2014. Kong could extract creative essence from seemingly mundane and arbitrary signs and shapes. His distinctive collages often materialized from readily available packaging materials within the store’s confines.

Kong’s works have been exhibited nationally and internationally, including Design Museum of Chicago, Hyde Park Art Center, Chicago, The Gaylord & Dorothy Donnelley Foundation, Chicago, Roman Susan, Chicago, Utrecht, Tokyo, Delmes & Zander, Köln, etc.

In conjunction with the Tokyo Art Book Fair, TABF will present a solo presentation of Kong’s work at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo November 23-26, 2023. Kong will also be included in a group show at The Carnegie, Cincinnati, opening on October 21, 2023.

Tusk is an artist-run retail project space that aims to create a welcoming gathering space to celebrate and present artists’ work. Operating in a non-traditional model as a shop, it changes throughout the year by hosting different installations, shows, and performances.
