On September 20th Arts + Public Life will be hosting an info session about the L1 Creative Business Accelerator Fellowship, Artists-In-Residence (AIRs) Program and the Performance Residency. Interested artists and creative entrepreneurs are invited to the upcoming informational session about all three residences and hear directly from past participants.

The Artists-In-Residence (AIR) program administered in conjunction with the Center for the Study of Race, Politics and Culture (CSRPC) has supported over 36 artists whose work examines themes relevant to South Side communities and engages issues of race and ethnicity. The residency has a strong record of helping launch careers, with alumni going on to exhibit works at the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Venice Biennale, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, among other galleries and institutions. The ten-month, paid residency program provides studio space, materials budget, and support for community engagement activities. Artists have access to exhibition and programming spaces on the Arts Block in Washington Park including the Arts Incubator, Green Line Performing Arts Center, the Arts Lawn, and at CSRPC, and access to the academic and research resources of the University of Chicago

The Performance Residency at the Green Line Performing Arts Center is an excellent opportunity for BIPOC performers and cultural producers to showcase their work and develop new projects. The ten-month residency provides three residents with access to top-notch facilities for rehearsals, workshops, screenings, and performances. The program prioritizes Chicago-based artists and collectives, particularly those whose work is relevant to the South Side, promoting cultural transformation and change through community participation. Each Performance Resident will receive a stipend along with support from a stage manager, light and sound board operators, and theatrical designers.

The L1 Creative Business Accelerator offers a 10-month fellowship for ready-to-scale South Side creative entrepreneurs to bring their businesses to the next stage. They can use the retail space located on the Arts Block, benefiting from the area’s cultural and commercial activities while contributing to the Block’s vitality. The fellowship also provides curriculum and programs curated by Proximity, the urban planning and social impact arm of The Silver Room Foundation, as well as resources and support from the UChicago Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and the Institute for Justice Clinic on Entrepreneurship.
