@ National Museum of Mexican Art

1852 W 19th St, Chicago, IL 60608

Opening Friday, September 22nd, from 6PM - 8PM

On view through Saturday, February 24th

The National Museum of Mexican Art is pleased to present Salvador Jiménez-Flores: eagle, serpiente, nopalli opening on Tuesday, September 19th. For Chicago-based artist Salvador Jiménez-Flores, the ancient Aztec migration from Aztlán to Tenochtitlán (present-day Mexico City) parallels the contemporary journey of immigration that so many make from Mexico to the U.S. The Eagle, Serpiente, Nopalli brass and clay installation presents the artist’s meditation on colonization, migration, cultural appropriation, nationalism, and survival as he moves ancient Mesoamerican ideas into his imagining of a post-colonial future. Join us on Friday, September 22nd from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm for the opening reception.
