Part of Links Hall’s 2023 Co-MISSION Festival of New Works
Through this Fellowship, Erin Kilmurray negotiates the making of new work, Nightshade, while continuing to develop and push multiple creative projects at once, including recent piece the Function, in process duet, Knockout. and ongoing project, The Fly Honeys. Erin is approaching her studio time as an abundant resource, allowing her the space and time to spread out, reflect, prune and practice longevity for her next artistic stages.
Emerging work Nightshade is a collective dance exploring that which flourishes best in the dark. While at Links Hall, Kilmurray will focus on its early creation through a sonic and physical world building as well as the ecosystem contained within it.
Erin Kilmurray is a dance artist creating performance works that enliven body and environment, confronting the relationships between performer, spectator, and space. She facilitates a dance practice that explores the limitations and liberations of women, queer folks, the underground and the underdog with a spirit of collectivity.
As a maker of genre-straddling work, her choreography has been presented by contemporary performance spaces, music venues, outdoors, and in nightclubs including the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Thalia Hall, Lollapalooza, Pivot Arts, Visceral Dance Chicago, Metro, and dancebox-Kobe (Japan), among others. Erin has also made dances for countless independent makers, parties, music videos, festivals, concerts, and theatrical productions.
She is the founder/director of The Fly Honey Show, called a “Chicago institution” (Reader), a Chicago Dancemakers Lab Artist (2020), and recognized as 50 People Who Really Perform for Chicago (2023; Newcity).
This event is part of Links Hall’s 2023 Co-MISSION Festival of New Works, two groundbreaking weekends of new performance and public events. Representing some of the most talented makers in Chicago from dance, performance art, installation, and performance as social practice, four artists present works developed while in-residence at Links during the 2022-2023 season. Featured artists include: Links Hall Residents Destine (D’Roc) Young and Rigo Saura and Fellows Rika Lin (a.k.a. Yoshinojo Fujima) and Erin Kilmurray.
