“I am very thankful to the Chicago Sculpture Exhibit for the support in creating a public sculpture for the Little Village community that reflects the resiliency and courage of this community.”
“Caminates is a memorial and celebration to the immigrant community in Chicago that come from different parts of the world. This public sculpture is a reminder to the Chicago community that we all came to this wonderful city from somewhere and established roots here. Also, acknowledging that there were indigenous people in this land before us. The cactus is a resilient plant that can survive extreme weather conditions and is very adaptable and I use it as a symbol of resiliency and adaptability.”
“It is an honor to be the recipient of the Richard Hunt Award. This award has been a very formative experience for me as an artist. This is my first public sculpture commission and I have learned so much about the process and now I feel more confident to pursue more public sculpture commissions.
Thanks to the Chicago Sculpture Exhibit and the Richard Hunt Award and special thanks to all the collaborators in this project.

Richard Hunt Award
In recognition of the internationally heralded artist and Chicago native, Richard Hunt, CSE will continue to bring new perspectives and diversity to the large-scale public art world by offering financial support to emerging and/or mid-career sculptors of all ages from the Chicago Metropolitan area for a new installation of work at a highly visible area in the City of Chicago. The award is part of CSE’s mission to encourage a broader range of artists who otherwise may not have the funds to design and fabricate large-scale public sculpture.
