May 13th 2023

Teens and young adults ages 13 – 25 are invited to take over our art studio! Join us and enjoy a printmaking workshop led by Marimacha Monarca Press, inspired by themes featured in the Giving Shape: Yollocalli Artistic Practice Through the Years exhibition. Participants will create an original design for a rubber block stamp that they will then carve and use to make relief prints.

This workshop is BYOI (bring-your-own-item) to print on — imagine your original stamp design on a t-shirt, tote bag, or other item you choose to bring! Marimacha Monarcha Press will also teach participants how to create their own patches using fabric scraps to add to your item. This class is free of charge. Spaces are limited. Email angela@nationalmuseumofmexicanart.org to register.

About Marimacha Monarca Press
Marimacha Monarca Press is a queer & trans people of color collective of artists and educators based on the southside of Chicago since 2017. MMP provides workshops in printmaking, seed paper making, piñata making, and zine-making as a means of self publication, communication, and reflection. Working alongside themes of queerness, race, language, migration, accessibility, and visual storytelling, we hope our conversations allow us to see the power in illustrating our own histories. Our pedagogy utilizes anti-racist and trauma informed approaches and our practice is centered on rasquachismo, the act of overcoming material and professional limitations within our home and public practices.
