PURVIS YOUNG solo show.
“Forever Young” will feature celebrated artist, Purvis Young. Young, who passed in 2010, was a prolific African American artist from the Overtown neighborhood in Miami, Florida. Self-taught, Young’s work was often a blend of collage and painting/ drawing, utilizing discarded objects to tell the stories of the African American experience in the South. His work can be found in the collections of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, The Metropolitan Museum of Art (NY), the Whitney Museum of American Art (NY), LACMA (LA), the County Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and others, so it is incredibly special to have his work showing in our gallery (with FREE admission) during a limited two-weekend showing.
Curated by David Gista (@dgista) and is in conjunction with the Larry T. Clemons Collection.
