A probing and original queer coming-of-age comedy, TAHARA (2020) is the feature film debut by director (and Northwestern RTVF alum) Olivia Peace. The film follows Hebrew school classmates Carrie (Madeline Grey DeFreece) and Hannah (Rachel Sennott) as they process the suicide of their school friend over the course of one day. As they work through their grief, they discover romantic feelings for one another, which the film brings into vivid focus by mixing live action with a range of animation styles. Peace and her talented team of collaborators (which includes numerous RTVF graduates in key creative and technical roles) bring formal ingenuity and humor to complex questions of loss, spirituality, sexuality, and race. TAHARA debuted at the Slamdance film festival in 2020, and has gone on to screen at numerous festivals, including the Toronto International Film Festival, L.A. Outfest, and the Frameline Film Festival.

Following the film, Olivia Peace will appear in person to discuss the film with Eric Patrick and Kyle Henry, Associate Professors of Radio, Television, and Film at Northwestern.

Presented with support from the Department of Radio, Television, the Gender and Sexuality Studies program, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Crown Family Center for Jewish and Israel Studies ,the Pritzker Pucker Studio Lab for the Promotion of Mental Health via Cinematic Arts at Northwestern University.
