The American Women Quarters Program is a four-year program that celebrates the accomplishments and contributions made by women of the United States.
Join us for “Historic Change: The Soaring Life of Pilot Bessie Coleman Community Day,” a free event at The DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center in partnership with the National Women’s History Museum, the United States Mint, and the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum!
This free community day celebrates the legacy of Bessie Coleman—the first African American and first Native American woman pilot—and the release of the American Women Quarters Bessie Coleman coin. Enjoy a reenactment performance by her great-niece, Gigi Coleman; artmaking activities; story times; the DuSable’s exhibitions—including their Bessie Coleman collection; and more!
This event is open to the public. Registration is highly encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome!

12:30pm, 1:30pm, 2:30pm: Story Time with Casey Grant, author and one of Delta’s first African-American flight attendants
