We hope you will join us for the closing reception for All The Brokenhearted People by Alonso Galue on Saturday, 9/25, from 12-4 PM. The gallery will open at 12 for viewing, and the artist will be live painting as well as giving an artist talk starting at 2. No reservation required, but please wear a mask.
Galue’s portraits explore the presentation of the human form and its fascinating aesthetic. His energetic and quick impressions of color interact and vibrate in the eye of the observer. The floating figures seem to move as you approach, becoming more abstract and diluted. This effect reminds us of the abstract paintings of the 20th Century.
Titled after The Beatles’ song “Let It Be,” a song traditionally associated with hope, the exhibition unites ideas of human suffering, portraying images from palpable realities while reaching towards their sublime dimensions.
Galue’s work speaks to the intensity of being alive today. His work exists as a continuation of a long lineage of figurative painting. Like Rembrandt, Lucian Freud, and Frank Hauerback, he explores the hallmarks of this style of painting: flesh and materiality.
In the past, Galue has presented human figures as disappearing, broken, decaying, and ephemeral. Now, he presents paintings of freshly forms confronting us with all that we missed looking in the mirror.
