Over the past year, we have all observed sociopolitical upheavals and economic fallout. With the closure of public spaces, art venues, art fairs, and international borders, the art ecosystem has had to question the status quo. Equity, parity, diversity, morality, and social responsibility have become more relevant than ever. This leaves us asking ourselves, “who should we support?”. Art collecting can be understood as a practice with social impact and the capacity to change collective thought, and is not solely the acquisition of beautiful objects to steward and display. Join collector Bene Badia Nordenstahl as she moderates a conversation with Kibum Kim, of the Commonwealth and Council Gallery and curator Marina Reyes Franco as they dive into the challenges and highlights of acquiring new works in our new “woke” world.
