Community lunch is an ongoing tradition at Mana Contemporary, where artists convene weekly to catch up, meet new people, and exchange ideas over lunch. Community director Sarah Khalid Dhobhany introduces two members from the Mana Contemporary community in conversation about what they are doing and creating during this time.
This week, artists Roni Packer and Michael Lopez join us for lunch.
Born and raised in Tel Aviv, Roni Packer completed her BFA and a BA in humanities in Israel. She holds an MFA from the University of Illinois-Chicago. Packer uses color to trace the relations between painting, memory, and space. She has exhibited at venues including 6018 North, Aspect/Ratio, Chicago Artists Coalition, Gallery 400, Heaven Gallery, Roots and Culture, and UIMA in the US and Benyamini House and Mani House, Tel Aviv; and the Open Museum, Tel Hai in Israel.
Michael Lopez is a public school educated, married, Chicago native whose interdisciplinary practice skirts around and sometimes focuses directly on systems, personal narrative, and craft. He received his MFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago and his BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
