Title: âtwo months without an outburst and Iâm good to goâ
In these âunprecedented timesâ we have seen time-based mediums and moving-image capture devices serving as the primary method of connecting us all throughout the global pandemic. I see videoâs potential to be one of the most generous mediums, providing space for care and storytelling. Via live streams and digital meeting rooms across the world, videoâs capability to mobilize and unify us has never before been so pushed to the forefront of our minds, our work, and our everyday challenges for survival.
This one-hour collection of short videos (video poems, video-art and video essays) engage a broad range of aesthetic approaches to my activism and interests in social justice as a queer, Latinx artists from Chicago. I started working with performance and poetry in video while preparing my portfolio for graduate school. This practice evolved as my primary medium because I see video-art as an accessible and egalitarian tool for resistance. I believe the ubiquity of cellphone cameras and our almost universal access to language and our own bodies position video-art as one of the most compelling means of expression and activation of ideas, emotions, poetics, and politics utilizing oneâs own power as the primary catalyst and subject.
