Opening Thursday, May 21st, at 6PM
826HI’s Publishing Fest is a literacy festival that takes place throughout the Spring to celebrate Chicago’s newest young authors and their written work.
For the first time ever, 826CHI is innovating our Publications Fest to better suit a digital landscape with live read alouds and e-book versions of each student-written publication.
Weâre kicking off this yearâs fest on Tuesday, May 5th at 6pm on Zoom, where our After-School Tutoring & Writing students, parents, volunteers, and staff will be reading aloud from the newest bilingual chapbook,” Happy as a Rollercoaster // Tan feliz como una montaña rusa”. This collection of poems, translated in English & Spanish, is about feelings and emotions.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, May 21st, we’ll be releasing our 2020 Young Authors Book Project, “Chao Comes Naturally” on Google Earth, which will include student profiles, voice recorded readings by students and volunteers, and locations marked to take our students voices all over the globe. Aptly titled for our time, this is an anthology of lyrical essays written by ninety 12th-grade students at George Washington High School in Hegewisch.
This program will be hosted by several 826CHI community membersâstaff, volunteers, and students will be a part of each virtual publication release event.
Only one RSVP to 826CHIâs Publications Fest 2020 is required to receive Zoom invites and e-book versions of each publication as they become available. We’d love to see you there!
