Discussion: In the mud and slush
@ Chicago Artists Coalition
2130 W Fulton St, Chicago, IL 60612
Opening Thursday, December 19th, from 6PM - 9PM
This event is a public discussion and closing reception for the HATCH exhibition: “In the mud and slush of opinion and tradition, the body becomes landscape and I become a transparent eyeball.”
Please join us for a discussion about our cultivated perceptions. The discussion will be moderated by Kushala Vora around the fundamentals of learning to name, comparing and valuating as the basis of divisive thought. How do we begin to understand our learned behaviors and perceptions? How do we see ourselves in relation to all things we name? Do we exert power upon something when we name it? Is there a difference between exerting power and to colonize?
We will watch a video by Jiddu Krishnamurti and read excerpts from texts by Edwardo Kohn and Jacques Derrida to simulate the conversation. We invite you to participate by sharing knowledge and thinking together.
