As the final installment of Rebuild Foundation’s Black Panther Party 10 Point Film Program, we are screening two titles in remembrance of Fred Hampton, Chairman of the IL Chapter of the Black Panther Party.
Right On! A Friend Remembers Fred Hampton (1989 18m) Veteran community activist Jorja English Palmer [1930-2005] talks of the events of 1948-1969 which led Fred Hampton to the leadership of the Illinois Black Panther Party and to his murder by Chicago police as part of the FBI’s secret counter intelligence program – COINTELPRO
The Murder of Fred Hampton (1971 1h28m) The Murder of Fred Hampton began as a film portrait of Hampton and the Illinois Black Panther Party, but half way through the shoot, Hampton was murdered by Chicago policemen and the FBI. In an infamous moment in Chicago history and politics, over a dozen policeman burst into Hampton’s apartment while its occupants were sleeping, killing Hampton and fellow Panther Mark Clark and brutalizing the other occupants. Filmmakers Mike Gray and Howard Alk arrived a few hours later to shoot film footage of the crime scene that was later used to contradict news reports and police testimony. The Murder of Fred Hampton is a chilling slice of American history.
Please read: the Stony Island Arts Bank has changed our film policies to help us better manage capacity.

If Eventbrite lists the screening as “sold out,” you can join the online waitlist. If online ticket holders cancel their order, you will be given the option to be assigned an RSVP. (You must claim the RSVP within 24 hours to be moved from the waitlist.)
Doors open 30 minutes before the screening starts. Each person in your party must arrive to the screening early to take advantage of their RSVP. Seats cannot be saved.
Any walk up attendees who do not have an RSVP will be placed on an onsite waitlist. If seats remain at five minutes before showtime, waitlisted attendees will be let in, in the order they arrived. The onsite waitlist is first-come, first-serve.
