@ Stony Island Arts Bank
6760 S Stony Island Ave, Chicago IL 60649
Opening Sunday, November 3rd, from 5PM - 7PM
SPECIAL GUEST
Rebuild Foundation’s artists in residence the AACM Great Black Music Ensemble perform the first Sunday of every month with special guests at the Stony Island Arts Bank. As a premier performing group of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians, Inc. (AACM), Great Black Music Ensemble features some of Chicago’s most visionary artists of improvisation and creative music.
An intergenerational ensemble ranging in size from three to thirty pieces, Great Black Music Ensemble performs historical repertoire from the great pool of AACM composers, led by Ernest Dawkins. The GBME carries on the legacy of Chicago’s South Side creative music that made its place on the music history map by expressing the excitement of new sounds and rhythms, while invigorating the traditions of black music including funk, reggae, bebop, swing, and African and Caribbean styles.
This event is free and open to the public, no RSVP required. Cocktail, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages are for sale in the Arts Bank’s Johnson Lounge.
