EXHIBITIONS
SEEING IDEAS: SIGFREDO CHACÓN AND JOE ZUCKER
Seeing Ideas brings together two painters never before shown together, Sigfredo Chacón and Joe Zucker. Born in Caracas and Chicago, respectively, Chacón and Zucker share an interest in aesthetic devices such as the grid and the monochrome, often using them to criticize the modernist canon from within.
FIVE WORKS: MOISES SALAZAR
Five Works is a bimonthly project series that features five new and/or recent works by emerging Chicago artists. Works are accessible to the public by invitation only. This month’s featured artist, Moises Salazar, addresses the barriers that immigrants and queer folk face in their work.
NONCONFORMING
Nonconforming is comprised of a series of video installations by Los Angeles-based artists whose projects “act out” against formal, cinematic, and social conventions.
OPEN STUDIOS
Mana Contemporary’s community of emerging and established artists of diverse disciplines open their studios to give visitors an inside look into their practice.
NEW MEDIA PROGRAM RESIDENCY
New Media Program residents Wanbli Gamache, Anneli Goeller, Christopher Lee Hare, and Philip Mulliken activate their collective studio and engage with the public through self-generated programming.
DECENTRALIZED PRINT SHOP
A new, collaborative work space for artists to produce and distribute unique editions. Stone and plate lithography, intaglio, and relief printing presses are now available for use in a spacious studio environment.
DJ SADIE WOODS
A Chicago native with a childhood steeped in performing and visual arts training, Sadie Woods DJs everywhere from academic settings to nightclubs, boutiques to museums. Her clients and collaborators include Theaster Gates, Gilles Peterson, and Oprah Winfrey.
TIGER STRIKES ASTEROID
Tiger Strikes Asteroid presents A Creep that Snakes: A Tic of Words and Symbols, an exhibition organized by Scott J Hunter, featuring works by Judith Brotman and Dutes Miller that intertwine gesture and communal language.
XAVIER HUGHES, INDUSTRY OF THE ORDINARY SUMMER RESIDENCY
The Industry of the Ordinary summer residency provides young artists working in non-traditional mediums extensive opportunities to develop their practice. Resident Xavier Hughes interprets samples taken from the audience, reproducing instrumentals for popular songs to be broadcast on surrounding speakers.
