The Chicago Ship is an extension of the international program of Tolerance initiated by Ilya and Emilia Kabakov in 2005. The project will be developed in three parts:
the first through educational workshops in schools, allowing 2000+ children of diverse races and cultures to create drawings reflecting their ideas of tolerance;
the second through construction and launch of a large-scale ship (50’H x 24.6’W x 65.6’L) with a sail created from children’s drawings that will launch during the exposition as part of IN/SITUOutside, a program for large-scale public sculpture, and an exhibition of children’s drawings and staging of children’s music performances in various venues in City of Chicago;
the third will consist of a Special Exhibitions booth of the Kabakovs’ artworks at EXPO CHICAGOand include the artists’ participation in the /Dialogues program, presented in partnership withthe School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
