You’ve asked for a good story.
So listen and I’ll tell it. She was beautiful once, the most beautiful,
And to many suitors she was an envy and a hope:
What caught the eye more than any other part of her
Was her hair. I found someone who said he’d seen it himself.
It’s said that He Who Guides the Waves, in the temple of Minerva,
He raped her. The goddess turned away, cloaking her pure
Features with the Aegis; but it did not go unpunished, Athena saw to that.
She turned the Gorgon’s hair to ugly snakes.
And now, to strike fear into her enemies,
She wears the snakes on her breastplate, the ones she made.
