From MLK to Ferguson: Open House and Panel Discussion

@ Chicago Justice Gallery

1344 S Halsted St, Chicago, IL 60607

Opening Wednesday, January 15th, from 12PM - 6PM

On view through Sunday, May 25th

Join the Social Justice Initiative at UIC to mark Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, January 15, with an open house in the Chicago Justice Gallery from noon to 4:00 pm, followed by a panel discussion with UIC scholar-activists from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.

Our panelists will discuss the present-day echoes of King’s “Beyond Vietnam” speech, in which he articulated a vision of justice at home and internationally that hinged on the call to shift from a “thing-oriented society to a person-oriented society.”

Panelists include sociologist Atef Said, Black Studies scholar and musician Johari Jabir, sociologist Patrisia Macías-Rojas, and sociologist Andy Clarno. The panel will be facilitated by SJI Director Barbara Ransby.

Join us before the panel for light refreshments and an opportunity to visit our current exhibit, “Echoes of Ferguson.”

Visit our website to RSVP. Masks strongly encouraged.
