FOR THE NIGHT: A FILM CHALLENGE BY FILMMAKER’S MIXTAPE
@ Blanc Gallery
4445 S Martin Luther King Dr, Chicago, IL 60653
Opening Wednesday, November 6th, from 6PM - 9PM
We are excited to announce the schedule for our inaugural Blanc Gallery Cinema Series, which will run from October 27 – November 23, 2024. Supported by a generous grant from Young Leaders Fund and curated by Jalen Hamilton (@1510west) and Rohan Ayinde, the series includes the work of 12 filmmakers whose films were selected from an open call for “Black Filmmakers whose work examines and challenges dominant cultural paradigms.”
Part of this year’s wider exhibition series, To Reveal The Beloved (A centenary tribute to the legacy of James Baldwin), Blanc Gallery Cinema Series will take place within the context of an exhibition of photographs by Austin Pope (@austinppope), which grapple with the legacy of closed Chicago Public Schools. Appropriately, the films in the series engage with concepts of disappearance, memory, transformation and the importance of visual art in preserving what once was.
While the Cinema Series is focused on film, we have put just as much emphasis on creating inter-disciplinary dialogues that mediate conversations between various mediums from poetry to archiving, music and performance art.
