About this event
The Joy Yang Trio
A fluid power trio of Joy Yang (piano), Mitchell Maftean (double bass) and Ori Sergel (drum set) bring raw emotions to life through sonic performance. We bring you fresh original compositions and arrangements of Jazz standards. Having met in graduate school at The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, the trio formed a strong bond through their shared interests in diverse styles and backgrounds. Their experiences merge together for a sonic experience which is honest, dynamic and raw. At times, their sets at times include theremin, electronic, vocal and solo instrumental moments.
New album “LIVE ON”
Live On is a live concert recording dedicated to the life and memory of Joshua Bell (1996-2021). It consists of original compositions and arrangements of Jazz standards. Listeners are taken on a journey through time, space, rain and pain, emerging joyously in a dance that celebrates life. Special thanks to my trio partners, Ori and Mitch, without whom these compositions and performances would not be what you hear today.
Available through Asian Improv Records starting November 2, 2024
