21st Century Wanderer invites 16 media artists from France, Germany and China, with Chicago-based artists to present diverse media-based works that explore the dynamic relationship between walking, technology, and society. Their work reveals that walking is presented both as a tool for shaping the current society and as a reflective practice that mirrors contemporary life.
The exhibition features diverse mediums including custom-made devices, interactive websites, video installations, experimental video games, interactive game installation, kinetic work, and performance. These artistic approaches challenge the conventional experience of walking, pushing the boundaries of how we experience walking in the modern world. Through these technological collaborations, the works encourage a reimagination of our urban spaces and social interactions, prompting reflections on how technology reshapes everyday life.
