HINDSIGHT
@ DOVETAIL STUDIOS
2853 W Montrose Ave, Chicago, IL 60618
Opening Thursday, October 24th, from 7PM - 8:30PM
On view through Sunday, October 27th
In the performance art piece HINDSIGHT, Joseph Ravens embodies his own archive by combining the very first performance action he ever made (1990) with moments from his most recent work. For this ongoing personal retrospective, Ravens revisits and breathes new life into actions spanning thirty-four years. If you’re near Chicago this weekend, be sure to atch this rare opportunity to see a strange bird.
Joseph Ravens (b.1968, USA) received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in theater and studied audiovisuals at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam before earning a Master of Fine Arts in performance from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Numerous grants and awards have allowed Ravens to build an international reputation as an artist, curator, and academic throughout North and South America, Europe, and Asia. Ravens is founder and director of Defibrillator Gallery and faculty in the Performance Department at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Visit josephravens.com or DFBRL8R.org to learn more.
HINDSIGHT is part of the first annual 3320 Dance Series presented by Dovetail Studios and Same Planet Performance Project. Along with Ravens, this two weekend festival features work from Bob Eisen, Zephyr Dance, Terence Marling, and Same Planet Performance Project.
