Sara Peak Convery is a Chicago based artist who enjoys working in a variety of media. Between 2015 and the Covid shutdown in early 2020, Sara was in charge of curating and hanging exhibitions as part of A Shot of Art at Perkolator. During the pandemic she became even more committed to the idea of using recycled materials in her work. She established Slacks Window Gallery in 2019 in the Gladstone Park neighborhood in Chicago and continues to host and collaborate with artists in her studio storefront space.
The Wohl Sisters Collaboration Series (2023- ongoing)
In November 2023, an artist friend gave me a large group of canvases painted by her long-deceased mother and aunt. Carole was in the process of death cleaning a lifetime of collected stuff, and she thought that I might make some use of her family’s artwork. I was recently divorced and had been feeling a bit at a loss for something to work on. Carole’s gift jumpstarted me wonderfully and allowed me to experiment. These paintings are a selection from my process and I consider them collaborations, as Gerda and Gisela’s work is still visible.
And some miscellaneous…
Another painting is included on the east wall that is not part of the Wohl Sisters collaboration. Recently I decided to revisit this painting from when I was in college in the late 1980s. It is also a collaboration in a sense: I am not the same person I was when I created it.
