Ceramics Artist-in-Residence Sydnie Jiminez presents A Respite, the newest exhibition at Lillstreet Art Center. The exhibition opens on August 09 through September 09 in our Annex Gallery. Join us for the Opening reception on Friday, August 9 at 5:00pm CST in the Lillstreet Lounge on the 1st floor.
“A Respite” includes wall hanging works by Sydnie Jimenez inspired by stained glass windows so often seen in cathedrals. Raised Catholic, Jimenez looks back to her childhood and the serenity she would find looking at stained glass windows amidst the internal turmoil she felt as a result of the religion’s emphasis on suffering and the violent colonial past associated with Catholicism worldwide. She hopes to bring a moment of relief and solidarity to those who view the exhibition.
