The GREYSTONE Collective | Indelible ORIGINS | Place + People: Why WE Are Here | Series 3, a solo exhibition features the work of Chicago-based artist, maker, and educator Aidan Anne FRIERSON. In a new body of work that combines elements of cotton, metal, clay, and writing in the form of cryptic self-portraiture, FRIERSON uses cotton as a vessel to physically process what is lived and what is felt. They reflect on experiences of identity, people, and place, and the interconnection of the past, present, in between, and beyond. Why WE Are Here is a culmination of FRIERSON’s engagement with and interrogation of material, color, texture, shape, and pattern as central motifs for their reflection of life’s connections. Indelible ORIGINS | Place + People 2024 four-part public engagement series (The BLACK Domestic Living & Dining Roomscapes, Venerate! Venerate!, Why WE are Here, THE Artisanal Roomscape LABORATORY) celebrates the identity and creative narratives of our Collective Artists + Makers and Guest Collaborators. With our combined histories (who, what, why, how and where) we endeavor to have a cultural impact on Chicago’s Southside; today and tomorrow.
Indelible ORIGINS | Place + People 2024 public engagement series is supported by Hyde Park Art Center’s Artists Run Chicago Fund in partnership with Art Design Chicago, a citywide collaboration initiated by the Terra Foundation for American Art that highlights the city’s artistic heritage and creative communities.
