Lincoln Park – Art City Presents ‘Handle with Care,’ mixed media works by Stina Joy Henslee and Paintings by Eleana Daniel.
Stina Joy Henslee is a mixed media artist who relocated to Dubuque, Iowa from her hometown of Chicago in 2020. Her work playfully addresses the ridiculousness and pain of existence – juxtaposing religious symbolism with pop illustration and anthropomorphism. She combines spray paint, acrylic, contact paper, string, pencil, ink, watercolor, collage and stencils to create whimsical dark pieces that are also (hopefully) a little bit funny. She graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 2004 with a trifecta of impractical degrees (Printmaking, German and Art History) and has additionally studied art in Helsinki, Salzburg, and Berlin and has shown in multiple Chicago galleries. Most recently she completed a month-long residency at Voices Studios in Dubuque and is currently working on a 2025 solo exhibition for the DUMA art museum.
Eleana Daniel was born in Raleigh, North Carolina and now lives and works in Chicago. She holds a BFA with honors in Visual Communication from Columbia College Chicago. After an almost decade-long career in advertising as an art director working for agencies such as Ogilvy and Leo Burnett, she returned to painting in 2019. She received her MFA in Painting and Drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2024. Eleana’s work has been featured at numerous galleries around Chicago.
Both artists will be exhibiting new work at Art City located at 1400 N. Halsted Street in Chicago from June 21 – July 17, 2024. An opening reception will be held on Friday, June 21, 5 – 8pm. Free and open to the public.
