Gallery Hobo23 invites you to Love & Chaos – a solo photography exhibit by Beth Kotz.
Exhibiting for the first time, she strives to make something visual from an unseen emotive sense. Focusing primarily on portraiture, she explores how the body and face serve as points of access for metaphors relating to the human experience. A recent series of images utilizes cinematic snapshots, “memories” as a background for double-exposed portraits. These photos portray a sense of anxiety caused by being unable to express what is contained within, and the anger of living in a world that is unwilling to listen to women when they speak about their personal experiences. The intense gaze suggests a power held back, a power transmuted into rage. The photograph’s silence becomes its voice.
Gallery Hobo23 is a drifting, nomadic art space exhibiting work curated by Gregory Fitzsimmons. It is the idea of a gallery functioning as a phantom ship or ghost train that travels from port to port, station to station for each show, creating its own context and circumstance as it moves from project to project.
